It was originally commissioned by a Canadian mine to transport construction equipment from a gold, zinc, copper and lead mine on the Tulsequah River in Canada. That’s 40 miles northeast of Juneau, Alaska, and no roads connect the two cities. Originally, the mine was going to use Monty to transport ore to Juneau via the Taku River. From Juneau, it would be shipped to smelters in Asia. That mine went bankrupt in 2010, however, leaving an unfinished Monty in the shipyard of its builder, Sundial Marine Construction and Repair of Troutdale, OR. |
